The
South beach Diet, an “updated version of the Atkins diet”,
how is called by some, is a good-carbs-good-fats diet.Unlike Atkins,
unlimited protein consumption is not advised or allowed on this
diet. Also this diet is not like others. Doctor’s Agatston
diet doesn’t promote the total cutting out of a group food.
Fruits and whole grain are encouraged. The South Beach Diet is more
balanced than many other low carbs diets. Dieters will often eat
more fruit and even whole grain bread when compared to other low
carbs diets.
Exercises are also encouraged and need to be practiced at least
three times a week. Doctor’s Arthur Agatston idea, is
based upon the insulin and cholesterol levels. First created for
patients with diabetes this diet can be used by anyone who want
to stay in good healthy or lose weight.
Studies
promoted by the American heart association and the national Cholesterol
Education program, show that persons that have followed the South
beach diet, had more favorable changes in blood lipid levels and
loosing weight that those that had followed an high-carbohydrate.South
beach diet promotes good carbs versus bad carbs and good fats. It
bans unhealthy fats but strongly promotes healthy ones.
Carbohydrates
are a very important food group and they should not miss from any
diet. Composed from “carbon and water”, after digestion,
they are decomposed and offer energy to the organism.There are simple
carbs, like glucose, and composed ones, with a more complex structure.
The
good carbs are those that are more natural and unrefined, like fruits
and whole grain carbs, and with a lower glycemic index.Bad cars
can be found in baked goods, bread, snacks, and soft drinks. Those
are leading to weight gain. After a meal with bad carbs, they are
quickly digested and the insulin level is elevated. This causes
the extraction of the sugar from the blood and deposits it in the
cells. The energy level drop’s rapidly and the craving for
sweet is again in your organism.
Eating
the good carbs, that are rich in fibers, make the insulin level
more stabilized because they are slowly decomposed and the energy
that come from them can be used for a longer period of time. Also
the need forsweet is decreased. Potatoes, fruit, bread, cereal,
rice, pasta, beets, carrots, and corn for the first two weeks of
the diet are forbidden.Three phases are included in Agatston diet.
The purpose of those is to accommodate the organism to the new way
of life, so that you can follow this diet all your life.
Kick-Starting
Your Weight Loss, as is called the first phase, includes total removal
of the bad carbohydrates. Three meals and snacks along are allowed,
so you won’t be hungry.Candy, ice cream, sugar, for two weeks
is not allowed. Beer or alcohol of any kind is also forbidden. After
phase one only wine is admitted.
But
chicken, fish, tofu and meat substitutes, nuts or beans can be eaten.After
two weeks, you can reintroduce the right carbs. This is phase two
of South beach diet. Fruits, bread, cereals, can be reintroduced
but slowly, one good carbs per period.
After
the organism has accepted the new way of life, comes the phase three:
maintenance of the diet for life.Good fats, low-carbs and aliments
low glycemic index are preferred. Also you can consume new aliments,
different from the first two phases, but they have to be low-carbs.When
is needed a person can go back to the first or the second phase
and follow it again.
